Mr. Samford

Hello, my name is Eric Samford.  I am a math teacher here at Holland ISD.  I teach high school Geometry and Algebra 2.  I attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated in 1990.  This is my 27th year in education where 14 of those years have been spent in Holland.  I have been married to Loie for 29 years and we have two kids Kaila and Ashton.  I have been a coach, teacher, principal and superintendent but I can honestly tell you that there is no place like being in the classroom!

If you have any questions, please contact me at esamford@hollandisd.org.

Contacting Me:  I want you to always feel free to ask me questions.  You can make an appointment with me or contact me at esamford@hollandisd.orgMy conference period is 2:55-3:40.  You can also find my website for class information and assignments located on the district website.

Class Routine:  Students will need to bring all required material to class each day.  You will need to maintain an organized binder with all notes, assignment worksheets, graded tests and other passed out material.  We will have homework almost every day and a quiz or test once a week (announced ahead of time).  We will have at least 2 tests per six weeks.  You are responsible for turning in all homework on time, but are encouraged to come in to my tutorial times to ask any questions you may have or to receive review on any topic.

Homework and Quizzes:  Homework will be assigned daily and is to be turned in the next school day to be graded.  This will give immediate feedback.  A quiz will be given after every two or three sections of the Unit we are studying.  In the quiz, I will ask for answers of a few specified problems from the homework that will count as a portion of the quiz.  The other portion will ask new questions over the topics we have covered in the Unit.  This grade is labeled as “Homework Quiz” in the gradebook.

Grading Per Six Weeks:  Daily Assignments:  30%

                                            Quiz:  30%

                                            Tests/Projects:  40%

Absences:  Since being in class will contribute to your learning productivity in this classroom, I will expect you to be in class and to be on time.  It is the student’s responsibility to collect all work missed the day before/returns from an absence.  Even excused absences (not including school activities) will count against a student’s total number of absences for the semester that can result in loss of semester credit or semester exam exemption.  See student handbook for more details.

I expect all of you to work hard.  I want to see all of you learn the material and feel better about your math skills.  Don’t be afraid to ask for extra help.  That is why I’m here.  This is going to be a great year of learning and growing, and I am excited about working with each of you.
