English Language Arts and Reading

English Language Arts and Reading encompasses many areas of study including reading, writing, listening, speaking, research, and grammar. In all reading classes, students will read texts that enhance their reading skills, help them to learn how to think critically, and introduce them to more diverse genres, subjects, authors, and cultures.

 Social Studies

In 6th grade social studies, students will have the opportunity to travel throughout the globe and learn about a multitude of people groups, their culture and history and how they influence today's world. Students will also expand their academic vocabulary relating to geography and sociology.

Renaissance/A.R System: Students use Renaissance to take a diagnostic assessment to determine their reading levels and take tests on A.R. books/class novels.

IXL: IXL is an educational website that provides students the opportunity to practice specific skills that we learn in the classroom. IXL contains skill practices for all subject areas, it is a helpful check for understanding during the teaching process, it enables students to work at their own learning level and their own pace, and it provides teachers to opportunity to immediately recognize students who need extra help with a skill or students who have mastered a skill.
